AFL-CIO's Richard Trumka on Racism and Obama

Just watch:

I don't know about you, but that gave me chills. We need more like Mr. Trumka.

Manchester United & AIG

Kevin Drum makes a good point. Now that the US Government basically owns 80% of AIG, we are also the primary sponsors of probably England's most famous football club. Does that mean Americans can get free tickets for ManU matches?

Song Lyrics

Since it seems Google is directing people looking for lyrics to Lost In The Flood to this site, I'll post the lyrics. You can also find them here.

Lost In The Flood

By Bruce Springsteen

The ragamuffin gunner is returnin' home like a hungry runaway
He walks through town all alone
He must be from the fort he hears the high school girls say
His countryside's burnin' with wolfman fairies dressed in drag for homicide
The hit and run, plead sanctuary, 'neath a holy stone they hide
They're breakin' beams and crosses with a spastic's reelin' perfection
nuns run bald through Vatican halls pregnant, pleadin' immaculate conception
And everybody's wrecked on Main Street from drinking unholy blood
Sticker smiles sweet as gunner breathes deep, his ankles caked in mud
And I said "Hey, gunner man, that's quicksand, that's quicksand that ain't mud
Have you thrown your senses to the war or did you lose them in the flood?"

That pure American brother, dull-eyed and empty-faced
races Sundays in Jersey in a Chevy stock super eight
He rides 'er low on the hip, on the side he's got Bound For Glory in red, white and blue flash paint
He leans on the hood telling racing stories, the kids call him Jimmy The Saint
Well the blaze and noise boy, he's gunnin' that bitch loaded to blastin' point
He rides head first into a hurricane and disappears into a point
And there's nothin' left but some blood where the body fell
That is, nothin' left that you could sell
just junk all across the horizon, a real highwayman's farewell
And he said "Hey kid, you think that's oil? Man, that ain't oil that's blood"
I wonder what he was thinking when he hit that storm
Or was he just lost in the flood?
Eighth Avenue sailors in satin shirts whisper in the air
Some storefront incarnation of Maria, she's puttin' on me the stare
and Bronx's best apostle stands with his hand on his own hardware
Everything stops, you hear five, quick shots, the cops come up for air
And now the whiz-bang gang from uptown, they're shootin' up the street
And that cat from the Bronx starts lettin' loose
but he gets blown right off his feet
And some kid comes blastin' round the corner but a cop puts him right away
He lays on the street holding his leg screaming something in Spanish
Still breathing when I walked away
And somebody said "Hey man did you see that? His body hit the street with such a beautiful thud"
I wonder what the dude was sayin' or was he just lost in the flood?
Hey man, did you see that, those poor cats are sure messed up
I wonder what they were gettin' into, or were they just lost in the flood?

Johnny Bye-Bye

I have seen lately where McCain has lost both Andrew Sullivan and Joe Klein. For a guy that is supposed to be all straight talk it is a very big blow. They were two of his biggest boosters, too. It is becoming obvious to anyone with half a clue that whether McCain ever was the straight talker, he is different this time compared to 2000. He has Rove acolytes running his campaign now. They are the same people that smeared him in 2000. Obama had a good line today. He said that McCain would rather sacrifice his dignity than lose an election, and he is right.

Bill Donahue? Seriously?

Over at Spencer Ackerman's new place, I was reading about Bill Donahue's rant against the DNC. When did he start caring? And why would he care what blogs are there? The DNC is letting Faux Noise into the building. I know Bill doesn't believe in free speech and all, but I suppose he doesn't want to disappoint. After all, you must be doing something right for Donahue to be flapping his gums in protest.

Bailout Nation

Bill Fleckenstein has a great article. When will the madness stop? And what happened to responsibility?

Believe It!!

Atrios says he can't believe the story about Mark Penn in this Time article. I can. Mark Penn is not a Democrat. He is an opportunist. Secondly, look at the stupid logic Hillary Clinton was using yesterday. She whined that if the Democrats used the Republican rules that she would be the nominee by now. It must be a sign of campaign fatigue that made Atrios miss Clinton's whine yesterday. If he watched it, he wouldn't have been surprised at all that Penn could be so dumb.

Please Read The Letter

I found this Tuesday night. The song was playing on some TV show(don't ask me which one). Much to my surprise, Robert Plant is a part of it(I am a big Led Zeppelin fan). It is Robert Plant and Alison Krauss singing, "Please Read The Letter". It was written by Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Charlie Jones and Michael Lee. Enjoy:

Madden 09

This is kind of funny. I know all about the "Madden curse". Regardless, I am sure all the active NFL'ers are breathing a big sigh of relief right now.

Generation Squeeb

I recommend this column by Matt Taibbi. It talks about how stupid our public discourse is(thanks to the TradMed*).

Character

Yves Smith wrote a great article that sums up what's wrong with the US financial system today. It's what happens when greed rules.

Why Americans Hate the Media

In light of Tim Russert's(aka Timmeh!! or Teh Big Punkinhead) performance last night during the Democratic debate I felt the urge to post about a column I read earlier today. It is twelve years old. James Fallows wrote it and you can find it here. It is as true today as it was when Fallows originally wrote it.

Obama-mania

What ever one thinks of Andrew Sullivan, a reader of his makes an interesting point. It is one explanation of why people are falling in love with Obama.

"William the Bloody"

It seems that Bill Kristol can't even attribute quotes correctly to his fellow wingnuts in his debut at the New York Times op-ed page.
